Gentle Thoughts

"Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls." ~ Matthew 11:29 NIV

Gentle is Your voice, for those who lack gentle thoughts.

You, our Father in Heaven, provide strength in our weakness! Yet, in the absence of matronly love, questions of how You might fill such a void overwhelm such a child.

Without the gentle voice provided by You, a mother’s absence thwarts the thoughts of one who cannot hear You, like a thorn that tears away at the heart, and longs to be filled by a matronly love. A love that has such great power that even You, our Lord, experienced with open arms.

A mother bears the seed of her child, as You knit each of us in their wombs. The questions remain, though…

How do You fill such a void when a child lacks a mother’s love?

You, our Heavenly Father, hold the answer in who You are. A mother shows unwavering love for her child, and so do You. A mother is gentle when she consoles her child, and so are You.

You give us rest in the same way we seek the warm embrace of our mother.

As a child who lost my mother, You, my Lord, fill me with that same warmth. She knew You, just as I know You. She called to You, pleading to return home.

In that moment, gentle was Your voice, for she lacked gentle thoughts.

And gentle is Your voice now, for You remain the same today and forever more. You may be our Father in Heaven, but You remind us of the matronly love that Your daughters hold for all Your children.
