Psalm Writing III: Flow of God
"If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." ~ John 7:37-38 NKJV
From You flows out the rush of joy. From You flows out the stillness of peace.
Where shall these rivers pave the way for Your living water to quench our thirst? How shall You flow to water the seeds for growth?
Welcome back to the Disciple’s Prayers: Psalm Writing Workshop!
Our Focus today is on the flow of God…
“He sends out His word and melts them; He causes His wind to blow and the waters flow.” ~ Psalms 147:18
“He split the rocks in the wilderness, and gave them drink in abundance like the depths.” ~ Psalms 78:15
“And in that day it shall be that living waters shall flow from Jerusalem, half of them toward the eastern sea and half of them toward the western sea; in both summer and winter it shall occur. And the LORD shall be King over all the earth. In that day it shall be- ‘The LORD is one,’ and His name one.”
~ Zechariah 14:8-9
These verses above exemplify what we are about to talk about. In fact, there is a large portion of scripture that has water imagery poured through it that if you order your spiritual walk in this way, you can reach His peace in a deeper, more profound way.
This is how I aim to order my life and walk with Jesus, and it’s how I aim to disciple others to do the same. And the craziest part is that this lesson was shown to me by a vision I had about something I reference in the secular, science fantasy universe I put together for the past decade. God was working in me before I even knew Him.
What this is referencing is what I call, The Flow Disk.
I wrote this post years ago, before I knew Jesus and when I was deep into the creation of my own universe. But let’s be honest, it really has always been God’s universe.
In essence, though, what the Flow Disk is inside this fantasy sense was a breakdown of how energies ebbed and flowed within each creature. It’s in the shape of a disk, with potential/power at its center, then the hybrid layer had three energies that would come out of that inner potential, and lastly, the outer layer with the larger forces that are beyond that.
What is a F.L.O.W.?
You might be thinking, “What does this have to do with writing a psalm?” And to that, I say this is extremely important in more than just writing a psalm, but it truly does add to it. In fact, it adds to your walk, I wouldn’t share it if it didn’t add to mine.
This is not a game changer, but I encourage you to apply this to your day-to-day walk with Christ.
Fulfilling Life of Work.
Not work in the sense of needing to work to be saved. But work in the sense of giving back and serving Your King who served you first! How does that sound? To me I said, “Yes and amen, give me that!”
Hold on though, how must we order our lives to serve Jesus first? It’s the same way as the Flow Disk, just replace that center point with Christ.
We say Christ is at our center, but is He? He might be in our ministries but for those who struggle in dark places and fall into the worldly patterns of those you might surround yourself with outside of church. This is where FLOW is so incredible!
Christ is our Potential! He is our Power!
There is power in the name of Jesus, through and through. NO QUESTIONS ASKED! If you don’t believe that, then I don’t think you heard the name right. JESUS CHRIST has POWER!
Woo! Just writing this makes me pumped up and ready to leap out of my bed (where I am writing right now), but I’ll just place all that power into my fingers as I type this out.
In all things, we pray in His name. And through those prayers, they have power because of that name. But as Jesus said to the woman at the well, as we discussed last week…
“Believe Me, woman, that a time is coming when you will worship the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem. You Samaritans worship what you do not know; we worship what we do know, because salvation is from the Jews. But a time is coming, and even now has arrived, when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth.”
~ John 4:21-24
Just as we worship, prayer is a form of worship because we do it in spirit and truth. Our hearts pour out to the Lord, doing so in our secret place.
“He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” ~ Psalms 91:1
His Word is clear that when we abide in Him, we are under His shadow and that can be out in the open for everyone to hear or in our heart and mind, praying softly so no one is listening but Him. That’s the Spirit, literally!
Therefore, don’t just see Christ as the center of your life. Visualize Christ as the potential in every facet of where you place your energy. Where your focus flows into, Christ should come from that focus.
What is made Holy will be His dwelling!
Now this is where the most important part comes in. What is chosen here must be in line with His will on your life. How do you figure out His will or calling on your life?
Easy, what are you most thankful for, what are His commandments, and what is Holy, set apart, and being made righteous in your life? If it doesn’t have those criteria, then it isn’t a priority or in this case, not an Inner Layer energy to work with.
Also, the inner layer is known as the hybrid layer regarding the flow disk. The picture above shows the three energy runes; kinetic, magic, and spark. The three of those are known as hybrids because they flow into each other to allow new powers to emerge.
This is important because if you structure your FLOW correctly, you will find that those things in your inner layer will start to flow into each other so well that they complement in different ways.
For example; my three inner layers are the following:
Marriage: God made marriage holy in Genesis and I intend to uphold that as best as I can by allowing God to overflow into it. I’m so thankful for the love of my life and will cherish her every day as a gift from God. That is my kinetic energy!
Ministry: God gave commandments to love Him with all my heart, mind, body, and soul, and to love my neighbor as myself. He also wants me to use my talents and make disciples of Him. That’s exactly what this entire workshop is about and every single day I write a new psalm, it’s for Him and you! That’s my magical (or in this case, my spiritual energy)!
Mentorship: God has blessed me with incredible mentors and coaches in my life who are teaching me to grow myself, and to grow others into successful leaders who are servants and provide opportunities that could incredibly bless their lives to provide freedom and choices. That’s my spark energy!
In these three things, I hope you can see how they not only have an overflow of God’s divine calling on my life but the way they flow into each other.
The Lord showed me this and I knew this needed to happen. I knew that I needed to share this and begin this fulfilling life of work so that I could be an example to you, an ambassador for Him.
Now, the last layer…
The Lord’s Outer Flow!
On the Outer Layer of the Flow Disk, you’ll find energies like quantum, cosmic, source, and void. Those four energies are harder to grasp but extremely powerful.
You have to be careful though, because they can be volatile. This is like focusing on career, focusing on money, focusing on status, focusing on wealth. They sound good and grand and can provide, but in the end, do they fulfill His calling on your life?
Now it is entirely possible for this to happen where the Lord flows into these places for you but its more out of blessings rather than a daily commitment to building yourself up in Christ.
For me, this has become Arthadian Anthologies, Reborn in Power, my other projects that I hope to return to but realize they are just me building my own kingdom instead of His.
They are fine things and can work, but without Him, it becomes a futile endeavor. Plus, this only works if you dedicate yourself completely to one of them until it is mastered!
See if you can pinpoint what these energies are in your life and really ask yourself if they can be moved to the Inner Layer or should be reprioritized to the back seat of your fulfilling life of work.
And hey, none of this is to say that God cannot overflow into every single one of these, but sometimes, He pulls you out of places where it is not right for you. These can and sometimes will be those places.
Finally, where do Psalms come in?
Alright, now that you have that context of your FLOW, it’s time to allow the Holy Spirit to flow out of you.
By now, you should have written out a few prayers, meditated on prayers, postured your heart, and with centering Christ as your potential and knowing that His name is powerful, you can begin writing a psalm.
Before you do though, I want you to find a psalm in the Book of Psalms and write it out, completely!
Choose one that resonates with you and write it out every day this week. Once you are done, join me for the next entry for a Psalm Writing Workshop!
Time for Prayer:
Heavenly Father,
Your goodness is so overwhelming that it flows out of us with prayer and thanksgiving! Thank You for this chance to share such a powerful use of a concept in which was used for my previous kingdom, and for Your Heavenly Kingdom! Lord, I pray that those reading this will have their own energies revealed to them. Where their priorities are structured within the Flow Disk and how You can flow into every aspect of their lives in such a way that Your eternal blessings come upon their greatest treasures, so that their heart’s truly are in the heavenly realm where You dwell. Jesus, thank You for Your name, Father, thank You for sending us our salvation through Your Son! And Holy Spirit, thank You for dwelling in us to refine us and make us holy so we may enjoy the Lord’s presence.
In Jesus name,
Amen
