Psalm Writing Worship
"How is it then, brethren? Whenever you come together, each of you has a psalm..." ~ 1 Corinthians 14:26 NKJV
Welcome Brothers & Sisters
My name is Matthew, and I am blessed to be a disciple of Christ with a writing talent. I love bringing the Holy Spirit along the journey, and if I can help others do the same then that’s even better for God’s Kingdom!
A calling in my life is to help believers deepen their faith in Christ, and one way I have been able to do just that is through writing psalms.
Therefore, I am determined to begin a Psalm Writing Workshop to arm you with a new way to worship the Lord!
What is a Psalm?
We all know the Book of Psalms in the Bible. But what is it that we are reading when on our journey through the biblical text?
Merriam-Webster defines Psalm as…
a sacred song or poem used in worship
especially : one of the biblical hymns collected in the Book of Psalms
A song or poem used in worship. A biblical hymn in the Book of Psalms. Even Jesus quotes from Psalms written by, not only King David, but by psalmist who added to the scriptures as prophetic text leading up to the cross.
Each psalm has deep meaning and profound revelatory effects when memorized and utilized in our worship and praise of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
How can you write a Psalm?
As I read through the Book of Psalms and began writing out my prayers, it was my understanding that David was not just a King, but a harpist and performer who sought to bring God into his writing.
Not only did David do this, but the psalmists throughout the Bible had a way with establishing deep seeded prayers through rhythmic melodies that outlines their heart’s posture toward the Lord and His people.
So how do we become psalmists ourselves?
Is it a requirement that a psalm be sacred? Answer: Yes!
Can we write something that is sacred? Answer: Yes!
What defines something that is sacred? Well, the Bible is sacred text because it is inspired by God. And if we truly believe we have been saved and baptized by the Holy Spirit, then it is my belief that we can still write in a sacred way through the working and fellowship of the Holy Spirit.
All we have to do is open our hearts up and allow His Spirit to flow from the deep confines of our inward prayers.
If we desire to write for Him, to Him, in His will, then truly we will become psalmists who are in touch with the very Spirit that manifested out of the Book of Psalms.
Join me on this Journey
As the Lord commissioned us to go out and make disciples, here is my call to you. Come and follow me on this journey, as we walk with the Holy Spirit together and learn to worship Christ similarly to the psalmists of the Bible. For we are His disciples and these are our prayers to Him!
