Trust in the Lord
"Trust in the Lord with your heart and do not lean on your own understanding." ~ Proverbs 3:5
Read Surrender to Him before reading this Entry
“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.”
Matthew 28:19
Peter said to them, “Repent, and each of you be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”
Acts 2:38
My Lord, the time has come for more children to enter Your kingdom. For You have brought me to disciples who seek to walk Your narrow path.
On the trek toward a lake in an open clearing between the mountain ridges, the first act of my ministry will be to baptize each of Your disciples You’ve so graciously brought me to.
However, I have yet to ask them why it is they are secluded on this mountain, and how Eronadel and Vesper came into Markus’ and Harim’s company. I know that Markus was an orphan so as far as I can assume, they too are orphans.
Perhaps, Harim being close to Markus’ father made him want to help Markus out, and Markus with his pure heart wished for Eronadel and Vesper to join. But, my Lord, I pray…
Heavenly Father
Please give me the courage to ask difficult questions to uncover the truth of Your children’s hearts. And give them the courage to open themselves to me, to be vulnerable so that Your spirit may further touch their souls.
In Jesus name
Amen
We approach a steep decline that cuts the path off into two, one being wide that is curving down toward a cluster of trees, and another that is narrow, yet, there is a cliff with a trench that must be leapt over.
Harim begins heading toward the wide path that leads into the tree cluster. I pause though, as I look to You, Lord. Which path do You, Holy Spirit, believe we should take?
“Teacher?” Markus’ voice breaks my focus, as I open my eyes and nod to him, “Is everything alright?”
“Why yes, just listening to see if we should take a leap of faith.”
Harim hears this and looks back to see we are not following him, “Why did you all stop?”
Markus answers, “Teacher is seeing if we should take the cliffside path.”
Hearing this, Harim stares at me with confusion, “Um, Teacher, forgive me but this path here is much safer and easier if you want the young ones to traverse down.”
I nod to Harim, but Lord, I call on You to illuminate our path with Your blessed light. Show us Your glory so they may believe Your spirit is real. Then with a sway of the trees, my eyes widen to see where they direct me. They sway toward where Harim stands.
I pivot towards Harim, “Do you truly believe this is the right path?”
“Yes, I’ve taken it many a time.” He assures me.
I nod and approach the wide path, focusing on You, my Lord. Then, with a sudden, silent sign from Your spirit, I hear a branch crack from within the tree cluster and a subtle growl.
My eyes widen and I look toward Harim, carefully. He stares back, noticing my careful gaze. Then he listens just as I have, and hears the growl and groan of a beast that lurks, waiting for its prey.
He slowly comes closer and lifts his hand to Markus and the children, “Hold still,” he leans into my ear, “Forget what I said about it being the right path, but how should we go about helping Ron and Ves over the cliff?”
I keep my eyes on where we heard the growls, “Are you confident in your ability to hop over to the other side?”
Harim nods, “Yes, I’ve done it before.”
“Good, you leap over and get ready to catch the children.”
He nods again and moves slowly towards the cliffside. Then he looks down into the trench and shakes his head. I say out loud to him, “Trust in the Lord, for He is with you.”
With another nod, Harim takes three steps back, rushes forward, and leaps over. He rolls onto the other side with just a minor scrape on his elbow.
“Markus,” I softly call out, “you next.”
“Huh?”
“You heard me, have faith in Him.”
Markus looks down toward Harim with hesitation and then says, “Why can’t we just go down the-”
“Markus!” I cut him off, “Listen closely and obey.”
He stops and listens as we both hear the growling approach our position. He then steps back and realizes why we changed our minds. Then he follows the same steps that Harim took, leaping to the other side with Harim helping him land safely.
I then quickly go to Eronadel and Vesper, “Alright you two, are you ready to jump?”
“Jump?” Vesper asks, shaking from the thought of it.
“Oh, I can jump!” Eronadel exclaims.
“Don’t worry, I will jump with you both, and with Harim and Markus over there, they will catch us. But we have to go now, alright.”
Vesper grabs my hand and Eronadel gets in the same position as Harim and Markus. Suddenly, the growl gets louder, as I look over to see the eyes of the beast and its gaping jaw. It emerges from the bush it was hiding in as I yell out, “Now!”
We rush toward the edge of the cliff and leap… Each second in the air slows down as I feel Vesper does not jump far enough. I use my strength and momentum to slingshot her into Harim, but this causes me to fall straight down, missing the ledge. I grab hold of a free rock on the cliff face before plummeting into the abyss beneath.
With a trembling right hand, I quickly look for a rock with a firm foundation.
“The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; my shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.”
Psalm 18:2
“Teacher!” I hear the shouts of my students. My heart races faster as my fingers slip, but I see a hand reach down. Looking up, I see Harim’s eyes in deep distress as he tries his hardest to reach me, “Come… on… Teacher. Grab my… hand.”
Reaching up, my arm is not long enough to grip his. In my peripheral, the light from the sun glistens off a stone sticking out to my right. I attempt to reach out to it but it is just out of reach, “I might be able to leap to that one, it looks more stable.”
Harim looks at the stone and yells back, “Pull me up!”
Once pulled up, Harim gets prepared over by the stone, “See if you can grab my hand when you leap!”
I nod, and close my eyes once more. In case this is my last moment here on the earth You’ve created, I pray…
Heavenly Father
Your strength in me outweighs the heaviness of my flesh. May You ignite my heart with Your power and glory, so I may have victory in Your name. For my victory is Yours, and my heart and soul is Yours! May Your will be done in this moment, for if I fall to death, I know for certain You have beaten it and peace will take hold. But I ask, for those who You’ve brought me to, send more faithful servants of Yours, so that they may know Your name!
In Your Son’s mighty name, Jesus… I pray
Amen
“Teacher?” Harim’s eyes shake as he nods to me.
I take my feet and plant them firmly against the face of the cliff, then with a great push, I leap over to the stone…
WOW...this is so good. Sitting on the edge on my chair!!
